Let's Unite in Imperfection

The true beauty of a woman lies in her identity, in what makes her different, in what she stands for, in her virtues and her scars, in her strengths and her vulnerabilities.

In our current world we sense the urgency to offer an answer to the apparent perfection presented around us. It is a relief to release yourself from the hostage of perfection. LaDress introduces the magic of imperfection. Defining women as themselves. Empowering women by giving them a look that enhances their strengths, regardless of figure, status or age. Offering the perfect outfit for our not always perfect life.

Let's unite in imperfection.

Simone on the Magic of Imperfection

In the last decade or so, a world of perfection has been created that has less and less to do with our day to day lives and realities. It is time to stop keeping up appearances, and open up to each other with what we struggle with, what we've conquered in our lives. A true life story is so much more inspiring and empowering. True beauty lies in real women.

From now on forward I will invite amazing women to share their story with us, openly and honestly as a way to show us all how to overcome backlash and disappointment, and also to guide us when it comes to following your dreams no matter what, fighting for what you believe in and never, ever giving up.

"The true beauty of a woman lies in her identity, in what makes her different, in what she stands for, in her virtues and her scars, in her strengths and her vulnerabilities"

Lise van Trojen

How time flies! This picture was in 2015. The second picture was taken just a few weeks ago... Like all mothers, I remember seeing her for the first time as if it was yesterday. And all cliches are true: they grow up soooo fast; do you recognize? Sometimes I miss the endless cuddling and little sorrows, but it's also so cool to see a beautiful and strong young woman emerge gradually... She's open to everything, she's brave and independent. She rocks! And still... She'll always be a little fairy to me. Thank you Lise for being who you are.

"I love you for the little girl that you once were, for the amazing woman you are today, and for the precious daughter you will always be"

I sometimes talk to people from the fashion industry who have worked with her and they assure me: your mother.. your mother was the best; truly impressive.. And impressive she is: a self-made woman who started out her career at 14, not having the option to finish school. At 36 (I was 10) her husband (my father) died completely unexpectedly. And she coped; she dealt with it; she made it her goal to provide me with that education she always wanted and she cared for me and loved me for two.

Thank you mama for being an inspiration, my most loyal supporter, my dearest critic (yes, she does that too). Thank you for all the love.

Listen to her words of advice in the film; they have guided me through life more than once.

Edith van Bommel

We became friends at a time when I was determined to focus on existing things and not look for new friendships, at all, really, couldn't handle them. Life doesn't work that way apparently.. When I didn't know Edith, she reminded me of an angel, so calm, beautiful and sweet, surrounded by her children. I do not recall a negative thought about her; not one.

So we had a chat, had a coffee, lunch, dinner, a first trip and many many more followed.

And I learned she is all that, but also suffers from the noise of the world; of every day life. Being calm is not a virtue, but a necessity. Feeling happy or just content is not a given, but a returning challenge. A wandering soul, always looking for ways to feel happy, to not feel unhappy. Each day, every day. She has struggled and has found her own way to survive: keeping a close circle, caring for others makes her feel alive, creating a warm and welcoming home, where it smells so nice, the music plays, she cooks a lot and she cares... a lot... That has proven to be her remedy.

I admire and love her for following her own road, for having an open mind and having the wisdom not to judge; never, ever...

Willemijn Verloop

What to do with our campaign? Some of you already contacted me: how appropriate the let's unite theme is now. So I decided to do the next interview; with Willemijn this time.

Willemijn was the founder of War Child and amidst all the Corona news, talking to her felt like talking to an expert. Not a medical one, but someone who has witnessed people in crises and trauma and who has made it her life's goal to bring light in those situations. And talking to her was comforting, so I just decided to share.

In her active War Child years, Willemijn met a lot of people in the darkest hours of their life. And she saw what people can do to each other when their actions are based on fear. But she also learned that hardship can bring out the best in us, that communities will come together and people will really support one another.

This has molded her to the person she is today; she has learned that you have to look for the connecting factor between people, that you need to find the little sparkles of light; they are always there. And then focus on the light.

In the current crisis, most people fend for themselves first, to protect their loved ones, their families, their income. But let's also look for the other sparkles of light: elderly people closed off from their families that get help from previously anonymous neighbors, the unbelievable dedication of health care workers to their jobs, the parents that - although frustrating at times- get an insight in the learning of their children, the digital coffee meetings for work teams, because they miss being around each other.. so many sparkles of light.

And that doesn't mean the darkness disappears, that this situation becomes perfect. It is far from perfect. It does give us the opportunity to learn, to learn to see the beautiful sparkles of light in imperfection. So let's unite - let's unite in this imperfection.

Thank you Willemijn, for sharing your wisdom ♥

Centuries back in one of Kyoto's majestic gardens, a tea master asked his disciple to prepare for a tea ceremony. The young man trimmed the hedges, raked the gravel, picked the dried leaves from the stones and cleared the moss path of twigs. The garden looked immaculate. The master inspected it quietly. Then, he reached at a branch of a maple tree and shook it, watching the auburn leaves fall with haphazard grace on tidied earth. There it was now...
